The preliminary surveys in different Indian states show imbalance in male female ratio,even to the tune of 780 female pwe 1000 males.in Haryana ,Punjab and Rajasthan states.In these states there is a dearth of brides for the prospective groom,In some parts there is a 'bride hunt'.Condition is not so worse in Central and South India but there too,imbalance exits.Unscrupulous doctors(even lady doctors)use sonography for sex determination and for huge fees abort the female child. Indians want male heir to continue their family line/tree.Daughters are for other families(PARAYA DHAN)They rejoice male childbirth and distressed by the female child birth.And the blame is put on the shoulders of the woman.It is the male and not the female who is responsible for sex determination.His sperm(Y)produces male when unitaed with female ovum(X).His sperm(X)produces female when united with female ovum(X).Lack of this vital information destroyed the peace of many Indian household.The problem is not so serious in low income groups but in middle and high income groups who are ironically quite well educated!It is high time that the newly married and prospective couples must be given couselling in this respect.
